PhoneNews.com is reporting that Sprint has set May 17th as the launch date for the Palm Pre. But a second launch date of June 29th is being planned as a contingency if Sprint does not receive sufficient stock in time for the earlier date. Internal memos circulating within Sprint Retail Stores are cited as the source of the information.
Sprint is also implementing a vacation freeze for May for its front-end customers to ensure that it can deal with the expected demand for the new handset.
There are already a number of signs that the release date is getting quite close. Sprint has already launched a portal for the Palm Pre. Rumours also suggest that Sprint employees are about to receive training on the new device.
