Sprint to launch Android phone this year

Sprint CEO Dan Hesse revealed in an interview that Sprint will deploy a Google Android-powered mobile phone this year. He revealed absolutely no details about the phone though beyond confirming that Sprint was working with Google.

The one detail revealed was that the device will not use Sprint’s WiMAX network (now offered by Clearwire).

In the same interview, Hesse indicated the Sprint had “high expectations” for the upcoming Palm Pre. He also confirmed that it was still on schedule to be available in the first half of the year.
