Only a few weeks ago, Sony unveiled two new models in its Reader line of e-readers. Today, Sony unveiled a third ebook Reader model and it is clearly aimed at Amazon’s Kindle. The Reader Daily Edition is the first Reader model to come with 3G connectivity using AT&T’s network.
Book lovers will be able to browse, purchase and download books as well as select newspapers and magazines when and where they want. There are no monthly fees or transaction charges for the basic wireless connectivity and users still have the option to side load personal documents or content from other compatible sites via USB.
The Sony Reader Daily Edition will come with a 7-inch touchscreen display (with 16 levels of grayscale), enough internal memory to store more than one thousand standard ebooks, and memory card expansion slots.
In addition to more than one million free public domain books from Google and new releases and New York Times bestseller titles (starting at US$9.99), Sony announced the launch of its Library Finder application. It will allow readers to find local libraries that are part of OverDrive where they can check out e-books.
The Reader Daily Edition will be available in the U.S. this December. It will sell for about US$399.
