Sony announced today its first netbook family, the Vaio W series.
Featuring an ultra-portable design, the W Series is perfect for using as a secondary PC, in any room of the house, for surfing the web, checking e-mail, and social networking.
The Vaio W be powered by a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N280 processor and Windows XP Home. It will come with a 10.1-inch LED-backlit display (1366 by 768 resolution), 1GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive, 802.11b/g/Draft-N Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 2 USB ports, a built-in webcam, an SD card slot as well as a Memory Stick slot, VGA out, and a three-cell battery (with optional 6-cell battery available). It will be available in berry pink, sugar white and cocoa brown.
The Sony Vaio W will also come with VAIO Media plus Multimedia Streaming software to share media content across DLNA-enabled devices such as the PlayStation 3, some televisions and some PCs.
The Vaio W should be available in August for US$499 (CA$599), making it more expensive than many similarly spec’ed models from other manufacturers.
