As expected, Samsung unveiled its new smartphone platform, Samsung bada, and showcased the bada SDK.
Samsung bada is a driving force in accomplishing Samsung’s vision of a ‘smartphone for everyone.’ To achieve this vision, Samsung bada offers a feature-rich platform for enhanced mobile experiences for consumers, and a complete mobile ecosystem through a developer support program that both the application store and consumers will benefit from. Based on Samsung’s accumulated expertise in developing advanced mobile phones, the company will allow its users to enjoy ultimate mobile experience through superb features.
Samsung bada will use the TouchWiz user interface. The platform will offer the usual functionality (3G connectivity, GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, etc) as well as flash control, web control, motion sensing, fine-tuned vibration control, and face detection. Context-aware interactive applications will be able to leverage a variety of sensors such as accelerometers, tilt, weather, proximity, and activity sensors.
Samsung also announced the US$2.7 million Samsung bada Developer Challenge which will give developers a chance to win prizes for developing bada applications. Samsung will also host a series of Developer Day events starting early next year.
The Samsung bada SDK is now available for download.
The first devices running bada are expected in the first half of 2010.
