Samsung I7500 gets FCC approval and a name

Samsung I7500

It was a good day for the I7500, Samsung’s first Android-powered smartphone. Not only did it get FCC approval but we also learned its name (if only in France).

With the FCC approval under its belt, a North American release is one step closer. And T-Mobile customers will be happy to see that it received certification on the 1700MHz band. Could it be the rumoured Samsung Houdini scheduled for a fall release?

Then, according to UnwiredView.com, Bouygues Telecom in France announced that it would be the first to launch the Samsung I7500. Bouygues will offer it as the Samsung Galaxy, starting in early July. It’s not clear at this time if this name will b used outside of France.

The Samsung I7500 will be powered by a 528MHz Qualcomm MSM7200A processor and Google Android 1.5. It will come with quad-band (850/900/1800/1900MHz) GSM/GPRS/EDGE and tri-band (900/1700/2100MHz) HSDPA/HSUPA connectivity, a 3.2-inch AMOLED HVGA (320 by 480) touchscreen display, 8GB of internal memory, Bluetooth 2.0, 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi, built-in GPS, a 5MP camera with auto-focus and LED flash, a microSD card slot (supporting cards up to 32GB), and a 1500mAh battery. On the software side, it features the full suite of Google services, including Google Search, Google Maps, Gmail, YouTube, Google Calendar, and Google Talk.
