Samsung developing its own Linux-based mobile OS

Yet another mobile operating system could soon be available. In an interview with telecomskorea.com, Dong-hoon Chan, head of mobile devices design group at Samsung, confirmed that the company is now working on its own mobile OS. He revealed little more than that except to say that it would be available “soon” and would be based on Linux.

Today, Samsung uses a number of other mobile operating systems for its devices, including Windows Mobile and Android. It’s not clear whether Samsung will continue to use multiple operating systems or if it will focus entirely on its own when it is ready. Samsung also already has its own custom user interface, TouchWiz. Will it use it for the new OS?

Here’s to hoping that Samsung soon sheds more light on their new mobile operating system.
