Samsung announces Android-powered Galaxy Spica

Samsung Galaxy Spica

Earlier this week, Samsung formally announced the Galaxy Spica (model i5700), their latest Android-powered handset. It is very similar to the Samsung Galaxy unveiled earlier this year but a number of features have been downgraded to aim it more mid-market.

Samsung Galaxy Spica is a powerful Android-powered smartphone that offers seamless connectivity, highlighted by smooth access to Google mobile services and easy connection to popular social network sites such as Facebook and MySpace.

The Samsung Spica is powered by an 800MHz processor and Google Android 1.5. It comes with 3G connectivity, a 3.2-inch capacitive touchscreen HVGA display, GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1, a 3.2MP auto-focus camera, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a microSD card slot (supporting cards up to 32GB), and a 1,500mAh battery. It is also the first Android device to support DivX playback.

Samsung will initially offer the Galaxy Spica in Europe. There is no word yet on whether it will make it to North American shores later.
