According to Boy Genius Report sources, Rogers has disclosed details about the deployment of its forthcoming 4G network. The company has settled on LTE as the technology behind its next generation network. The company is already hard at work on the deployment and even reported that it is ahead of its own project schedule. Recent tests recorded download speeds up to 50Mbps and are expected to hit 70Mbps by the time the network launches.
The deployment will begin in Vancouver in February 2010, just in time for the 2010 Olympics. The service will then be extended to other markets during Q2 2010. Initially, the service will be offered only for USB sticks. 4G-enabled handsets will become available in late Q2 2010 when the network covers more than just Vancouver.
Rogers also revealed that its cable business is nearing capacity. Rogers is planning to move its cable internet network over to its new 4G network to free up capacity to then allow it to add more HD content on its cable network. Eventually, everything could move over to 4G.
