Should Globalive find itself unable to launch its WIND Mobile brand due to the CRTC ruling on its ownership, Rogers has revealed that it would be interested in buying up its spectrum. According to Rogers CEO Nadir Mohamed, “Spectrum is a very valuable asset. Rogers for sure would be interested in picking it up.”
Globalive spent about CA$442 million to buy up licenses spanning across Canada (except Quebec) back in July 2008 in a spectrum auction. It was then granted a wireless license by Industry Canada only to run afoul of the CRTC.
Globalive has yet to reveal any hint of its next move. One recent suggestion is a partnership with Quebecor and its Videotron subsidiary which essentially bought almost all available spectrum in Quebec during the auction.
