While HTC is not out of the legal woods in Germany, it has been granted permission to continue to sell its UMTS smartphones in Germany thanks to the suspension of a ruling passed last month. IPCom GmbH, a German patent license management company, had sued HTC over the alleged infringement of some UMTS patents and a German court had sided with it.
This might give HTC and Vodafone enough time to launch the HTC Magic.
While HTC fights the case in court, it has already begun to work with its chipset partner to identify an alternative solution.
The case is set to resume in about four weeks.
