Palm Eos launch delayed or canceled?

Palm

A while back, rumours revealed that Palm was already working on a follow-up for the Palm Pre. The Palm Eos (codename Pixie) appears to be a replacement for the Palm Centro. Now comes word that we may not see it or will see it much later than initially anticipated.

TechCrunch is now reporting that their sources have indicated that Palm may have decided to hold off on launching the Eos until it has a better idea of how the Palm Pre is doing. Development is continuing but a launch before the end of the year is at risk.

TechCrunch surmises that low Pre sales (Sprint calls the launch a success) may be the driving factor behind this decision but shortages could be another reason. Apparently, Palm had ordered 500,000 units for the end of May from Foxconn but has only received 150,000 to date. Foxconn blames the device’s complicated mechanical design.

The Palm Eos is expected to come with quad-band GSM/HSDPA connectivity, a 2.63-inch HVGA display, a QWERTY thumb keyboard, 4GB of storage, A-GPS, Bluetooth 2.1 (A2DP and EDR), a 2MP camera with fixed focus, and a 1150mAh battery.
