As part of its Capital Markets Day yesterday, Nokia revealed some high level details of its 2010 product roadmap. Overall, Nokia expects that overall mobile device shipments will grow 10 percent over 2009 but that its own share will remain flat. Nokia also expects that average selling price (ASP) will continue to fall in 2010.
In terms of its roadmap, Nokia set the following goals for itself:
- A major Symbian upgrade before mid-2010 with another to follow by the end of 2010
- Delivery of its first Maemo 6-powered mobile computer with “an iconic user experience” in the second half of the year
- A much larger proportion of touch and/or QWERTY smartphone devices
- Ongoing investment in affordable and localized services offerings for emerging markets
Last week, a rumour surfaced suggesting that Nokia would only release one new Linux-based (presumably Maemo) device in 2010. This suggests that Nokia’s commitment to Symbian is stronger than other recent news had indicated.
