Phonescoop is reporting that all upcoming Motorola smartphones will be powered by Google Android, leaving Windows Mobile out in the cold. While there is no official confirmation of this move, the move would line up with Microsoft’s announcement that Windows Mobile will be offered on fewer phones this year.
The company is also planning to release far fewer phones, potentially offering no more than a dozen models (including smartphones) this year.
Motorola’s move will be accompanied by more layoffs (described as significant) in its handset division as the company struggles to return to profitability.
