A new MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator) is set to launch in the United States. Zer01 is planning to enter the market with some competitive plans at the conclusion of a beta program scheduled to start in April.
Using the AT&T’s network and a proprietary VOIP application, Zer01 will launch with two plans that offer unlimited data and voice. The Unlimited Domestic plan will cost US$69.95 and will offer unlimited minutes in the continental United States and Canada. The Unlimited International plan will extend coverage to an additional 40 countries and will cost US$79.95. Neither plan will require a service contract but both have a US$30 activation fee.
For now, Zer01 will only support Windows Mobile 6 GSM devices. It will offer three (the HTC Touch 3G, the HTC Touch Diamond and the HTC TyTN II) and customers will be able to bring over their own if they already have one. But Zer01 plans to support other operating systems and devices, including Google Android, BlackBerry devices and even jailbroken iPhones, in the future.
Zer01 is expected to announce its commercial launch date at the upcoming CTIA trade show.
