Most Verizon smartphones now available for US$99

Verizon Wireless

Verizon has dropped the price on most of the smartphones it offers to US$99 with a two-year contract. Only the RIM BlackBerry Tour and Samsung Saga are still priced at US$199 with two-year contracts.

Verizon gave no reason for the price reductions which in some cases have been quite significant. For example the HTC Touch Pro dropped from US$419 to US$99. It’s clear though that Verizon is looking to move existing stock ahead of the upcoming holiday season and new models. Among these are expected to be the HTC Touch Pro2 and the next version of the BlackBerry Storm. Perhaps the AT&T Apple iPhone 3G at US$99 also had a hand in this.

Whatever the reason, is there anyone out there who does not like these lower prices?
