More Maemo-based devices coming from Nokia

On the heels of its Nokia N900 announcement, Nokia has confirmed that it is planning more Maemo-powered devices. These Maemo mobile Internet devices (MID) will target the high-end mobile computing segment. They will fit between Symbian-based devices for the mass market and its new Windows 7-powered netbooks.

No timelines were given as to when we could expect to see these future Maemo devices.

Jonas Geust, vice president, Nokia N-series players, also sees a future where four to five mobile operating systems will compete in the global handset market. Among those, Geust listed Symbian S60, Maemo, Windows Mobile and Android. Oddly enough, he neglected to mention the BlackBerry and iPhone operating systems…
