It may not be quite as official as a press release but the Windows Mobile development team has confirmed via Twitter that they are done coding Windows Mobile 6.5.
For the record, Windows Mobile 6.5 is DONE… complete… looks really good IOHO and every bit functional.
With development complete, Microsoft will now turn it over to licensees. It may still be a few months before we see devices running Microsoft’s latest version of its mobile operating system as manufacturers will need time to get new devices (and hopefully upgrades) ready.
Windows Mobile 6.5 is not a major upgrade (that will hopefully be up to Windows Mobile 7) but it will offer a new user interface and an improved browsing experience. It will also come with a new home screen providing a dashboard-like experience to items such as new e-mails, texts, missed calls and calendar appointments, as well as touchscreen improvements and a new version of Internet Explorer Mobile. It will also support the new Windows Marketplace for Mobile, Microsoft’s version of an online application store.
