Motorola and Nokia announced a new global alliance today. Two companies will work together to bring business software to smartphones. More specifically, this will bring Microsoft Office Mobile and Microsoft business communications, collaboration and device management software to Nokia’s Symbian devices. The alliance also promises a range of new user experiences for future Nokia devices.
By working together, Microsoft and Nokia hope to be able to give competitors such as RIM and Google (with its Google Apps) some stronger opposition. On the other hand, both companies reiterated their support for their respective mobile operating systems.
The two companies did not give firm timelines but Microsoft applications and services should appear first on the Nokia E series sometime next year.
