Digitimes is reporting that Microsoft has partnered with Taiwan-based MediaTek to develop Windows Mobile-enabled chipset solutions for smartphones. The move could help Microsoft boost the market share of Windows Mobile phones, especially in China where MediaTek is well established.
If so, it is likely that some of the devices would support the Chinese TD-SCDMA 3G standard.
According to Digitimes sources, 3G smartphones using MediaTek’s chipsets could be available as early as Q3 2009.
