HTC is apparently at work on a successor to the HTC Touch HD. It appears that this new device, possibly to be known as the HTC Touch HD 2 (or HD2?), will be more than the usual hardware upgrade. If Register Hardware is correct, Windows Mobile (used by the Touch HD) will be replaced by Google Android in the new device.
HTC recently revealed that Android-powered devices could make up to 30 percent of device shipments in 2009. Despite the imminent release of Windows Mobile 6.5 and next year’s release of Windows Mobile 7, HTC wants to grow Android device shipments to 50 percent next year.
Other rumoured details include a faster 628MHz Qualcomm chip and a 3.8-inch touchscreen display (running at 480 by 800) like the current model.
There is no word on pricing and availability at this point. I’m hoping that this time, we will see the Touch HD in North America.
