HTC to increase Android shipments and offer Qualcomm BREW handset

HTC

According to Digitimes, HTC appears set to continue to look beyond Windows Mobile for future devices. Not only is it looking to grow Android shipments but it is also looking at alternative operating systems.

While Android will account for about 30 percent of HTC shipments in 2009, the company wants to grow that to 50 percent next year. This comes despite the imminent release of Windows Mobile 6.5 later this year and Windows Mobile 7 in 2010.

More interesting, especially in light of this morning’s rumours of HTC launching a new phone with a proprietary operating system, is the news that the company plans to unveil a new 3G handset based on Qualcomm’s Brew Mobile Platform (Brew MP) in the fall. The entry-level device will target the consumer market and will come with a touchscreen and a user interface based on HTC’s TouchFLO 3D and Sense. It sounds like this morning’s story was not completely off the mark.
