HTC embroiled in patent fight in Germany

HTC

IPCom GmbH, a German patent license management company, is suing HTC over some UMTS patents. The suit covers both Windows Mobile and Android devices and could result in HTC having to pay license fees to continue to sell its mobile phones in Germany. The alternative would be to stop selling its devices in Germany.

A German court has already sided with IPCom in a ruling issued on February 27th. It remains to be seen if the two companies will be able to reach an agreement over licensing fees.

IPCom has also filed a complaint against Google with whom HTC is working for the T-Mobile G1 and upcoming HTC Magic.

At the heart of the matter are a 100-series of patents that IPCom bought from Robert Bosch GmbH back in 2006.
