HTC delays BREW devices to early 2010

HTC’s move into the feature phone market has been delayed according to Digitimes sources. Back in July, a report suggested that HTC would release a new 3G handset based on Qualcomm’s Brew Mobile Platform (Brew MP) in the fall. Instead, it appears that we will not see these devices until early 2010.

The delay has been attributed to the fact that the Brew application service platform offering still requires further work. Qualcomm is working with a number of mobile software developers to come up with applications, including a Java virtual machine, a web browser, and GPS services.

Apparently, both Verizon Wireless and Sprint are interested in HTC’s Brew handsets and could be among the first carriers to offer them when they are ready.
