Google releases software update for Android Developer Phone

Google Android Developer Phone

Google and HTC have released a software upate for the unlocked Android Dev Phone (aka the ADP1). The new software update is fully compatible with Android 1.1 (and backward compatible with 1.0) and delivers a number of enhancements and fixes.

Among the new features are new details and reviews for businesses found on Google Map searches, a longer in-call screen timeout default for the dialer, the ability to show or hide the dialpad on the in-call menu, support for saving attachments from MMS and support for marquee in layouts. There are fixes for the alarm clock, device sleep, IMAP connection freeze ups, password-quoting bugs in IMAP, and more. There are also a number of API changes.

The update also allows developers to access the Android Market and install some but not all applications. Any application with copy protection (free or paid) will not be available to prevent these from being copied off the device. Because the ADP1 allows for unrestricted access to the device’s contents, there was no way for Google to adequately protect these applications. Applications without copy can be installed.
