Only days ago, Gameloft finance director Alexandre de Rochefort said that his company was cutting back on Google Android development in light of disapointing sales. In an apparent about-face, Gameloft today announced in a press release its support for “next generation Android phones like the Motorola Droid and the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10.”
“The arrival of this new generation of phones will allow the development of High Definition games that make the most of the technological capacity and the speed of execution offered by the new Android phones. Consumers will benefit from a top quality gaming experience,” says Gonzague de Vallois, vice-president of Publishing at Gameloft.
Does this mean that Gameloft is abandoning development on the older Android 1.x platforms? It does not appear to be quite that clear as the company goes on to indicate that it will continue to support “the current generation of Android phones.”
Gameloft also announced that Assassin’s Creed was on its way to Android and promised additional titles. Gaming on the Android platform is looking a lot brighter than it did only days ago.
