Developers cutting back on Android software?

Google Android Market

At least one mobile software developer is cutting back on development efforts for the Google Android platform. During an investor conference, Gameloft announced significant investment cuts and blamed the Android Market for the decision. Apparently, the company is not alone and others are also scaling down their Android development.

Gameloft has found that its Android revenues are not significant enough to justify current investment. According to Gameloft finance director Alexandre de Rochefort, Google is not doing enough to convince customers to buy software from the Android Market. In comparison, Gameloft sells 400 times more iPhone games, accounting for 13 percent of its revenues in the last quarter.

Google recently unveiled some improvements to the Android Marketplace in Android 1.6. It added screenshots and reviews and revamped the home page.
