Dell has retired its first netbook model, the Inspiron Mini 9. It has already been pulled down from Dell’s web site (both in the U.S. and Canada).
It was a successful product by any number of measures, including the unofficial “modders dream” device with owners adding GPS modules, installing different OS, upgrading memory, etc.
Dell introduced the Inspiron Mini 9 last fall. Since then, the Dell Mini family has grown to include a number of different models with 10- and 12-inch displays. Dell is recommending that customers who were looking to buy a Mini 9 look at the Mini 10v instead.
The move follows a general trend away from the smaller 7- and 9-inch displays of the earlier netbooks towards larger displays and keyboards.
