India’s Ministry of Communications announced that its auction of 3G spectrum has been postponed to the end of January 2009. Originally set for the end of 2008, the auction had already been pushed back to January 16th before this latest delay to January 30th.
The move followed requests from potential bidders who wanted more time to study bid documents and auction rules.
Applications to bid in the auction will now be accepted until January 15th.
The auction will focus on the 2.1GHz frequency used in HSPA data networks. It is to be followed by another auction, this time for the 2.3GHz and 2.5GHz bands for broadband wireless.
