Fresh from seeing its decision on Globalive’s ownership structure overturned by the Canadian government, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) has announced that it will review another upcoming wireless carrier. This time, Public Mobile finds itself under scrutiny:
At this time, and based on the information available, the Commission considers that the ownership structure of Public Mobile is of a complex nature and could hold precedential value for the industry and the general public.
Unlike the Globalive review, this one will take place behind closed doors and feedback from other wireless carriers will not be solicited.
Alek Krstajic, the chief executive of Public Mobile, expects that the review will find it fully compliant with Canadian laws:
“We expect that the CRTC will very quickly come to a determination that we are Canadian controlled in fact and in law,” he said.
The CRTC did not provide a deadline by which it will issue its decision but a spokesperson said that it would likely be sometime in January.
