This one will not come as a big surprise to Canadians. A new report by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) shows that Canadians pay some of the highest mobile phone rates among Western countries.
Using a medium usage scenario of 780 calls, 600 text messages, and eight video messages for their calculations, the OECD found that Canadians had the third most expensive usage at US$500.63. Only Spain and the U.S. costs were higher. In comparison, seven European countries, including The Netherlands and Finland, had costs below US$200.
For low and intensive usage scenarios, Canada ranked 19th and 20th respectively.
It will be interesting to see if this changes at all in late 2009 and early 2010 with the launch of new players such as WIND Mobile and DAVE Wireless.
