HTC is apparently looking at adding some new component suppliers for some of its devices. Today, HTC relies primarily on Qualcomm for its 3.5G chipsets but that could change in the future. Such a move would reduce risks associated with dealing with a single supplier.
According to Digitimes, HTC is evaluating Broadcom’s dual-core CPU solutions as an alternative 3.5G chipset for its entry-level and mid-range smartphones. It is also considering using Nvidia Tegra processors with 3.5 chipsets from ST-Ericsson on higher-end devices. Digitimes sources add that HTC is already developing some devices using and Tegra/ST-Ericsson solution.
There is no word on when devices using some of these new chipsets could ship although it appears that it would be sometime in 2010 at the earliest.
