A new HP iPAQ device identified as the KB1 has received FCC approval. A couple of clues in the documentation suggest that the KB1 is none other than the oft-rumoured but still unannounced HP iPAQ K3 (codename Obsidian). First, the FCC ID labels shows it as an “AT&T SKU” (supporting earlier rumours) and some of the documentation indicates that the software version is “Obsidian_0.21.58.03” and confirm that the device’s codename is Obsidian.
Due to a confidentiality request, little is know about the KB1 but it will come with GSM/GPRS/EDGE/WCDMA/HSDPA connectivity. Earlier rumours shed a bit more light: It will be powered by a 528MHz Qualcomm MSM7200A processor and Windows Mobile 6.5. It will come with quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE and tri-band (850/1900/2100MHz) UMTS/HSDPA connectivity, an AMOLED 2.43-inch QVGA display, 256MB RAM and 512MB ROM, GPS, 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0, a QWERTY thumb keyboard, a 3.5mm headphone jack, an optional 3.2MP camera, and a 1400mAh battery.
Based on leaked AT&T information, a launch could happen in late November.
