Apple postpones tablet release to second half of 2010?

Apple

According to Digitimes, Apple is looking to delay the launch of its oft-rumoured tablet device from March 2010 to sometime in the second half of the year. The delay is being attributed to decisions to make some component changes and to offer a second model with a 9.7-inch OLED display. The first model will apparently sport a 10.6-inch LCD display.

Recent rumours had suggested that Apple had finalized design around a 9.6-inch tablet. The decision to use an OLED display (which currently cost about US$500) may have pushed Apple to hold off a bit longer to allow panel prices to drop later in the year.

At the same time, Apple may have decided to also offer a 10.6-inch LCD model at a lower price point. Digitimes sources estimate that the 9.7-inch model could hit US$2000 at retail whereas the LCD model would come in between US$800 and US$1000.

And the Apple tablet rumour roller-coaster rolls on for another day…
