As soon as news broke that the Palm Pre could sync with Apple iTunes, many wondered how long it would take for Apple to respond. We now have our answer. Apple’s latest version of iTunes has shut down the Palm Pre’s ability to sync with the Palm Pre. According to an Apple spokesperson, iTunes 8.2.1 “disables devices falsely pretending to be iPods, including the Palm Pre.”
It’s not clear whether Palm will now try to re-enable the sync functionality. In the meantime, Palm suggests that there are a number of options. Palm Pre users can continue to use iTunes 8.2, they can transfer their music via USB, or they can use a third party application that provides similar functionality.
