According to AndroidLib.com, a site that tracks Android Market statistics, the Android Market now features more than 20,000 applications and games. It was only in September that it had reached the milestone of 10,000 applications so momentum is gathering as Android’s market share continues to climb.
Free applications account for 62.3 percent of the catalog with paid applications holding the balance (37.7 percent). The redesigned Market application first introduced in Android 1.6 should help increase that share as it is now easier to draw attention to paid applications.
Meanwhile, here in Canada, we continue to wait for paid applications in the Market.
Update: According to Google, the Android Market now has just over 16,000 applications rather than the 20,000 counted by AndroidLib.com. A satisfactory explanation about the disparity has not been provided by either AndroidLib.com or Google. Google also declined to confirm the ration of free to paid applications.
