Amazon announced today a new application that will allow people to read ebooks on their Apple iPhone or iPod touch. The application will allow customers to download books from the Kindle catalog and read them on their iPhone or iPod touch.
The Kindle application for iPhone and iPod touch lets customers bring their Kindle books with them wherever they go and takes full advantage of Apple’s Multi-Touch user interface.
The Kindle application for iPhone and iPod touch gives customers access to over 240,000 books, access to previously purchased books, and lets users add bookmarks, make notes and highlight text. Amazon’s Whispersync technology will even keep track of where the reader left off and resume from there on any device the reader uses (in the case that he reads ebooks on more than one).
Amazon just launched its Kindle 2 last month. With this move, Amazon opens up its Kindle store to more than just Kindle owners. Not only will this drive new traffic to the store but more than one customer may then decide to pick up a Kindle.
The Kindle application is free and available for download from the Apple App Store.
