There is good news today for Canadians looking to get their hands on the Amazon Kindle. After some delays, it is finally shipping to Canada. Amazon has not provided any explanation for the delay but it could be tied to Amazon negotiating with Canadian carriers (especially with Bell and TELUS just having launched their HSPA networks) to obtain favourable terms for its WhisperNet service. It’s also not clear which carrier won out in the end.
The Kindle Store now offers more than 350,000 books normally selling for US$9.99 or less. It also offers U.S. and international newspapers, more than 35 magazines, and over 7,000 blogs.
Update: The Canadian edition of the Kindle will not include the web browser and blog subscription service. Free access to Wikipedia will be available. Is this a carrier limitation?
