Acer shifting focus to Google Android starting with A1

Digitimes sources have revealed that Acer is increasing its focus on Google Android as a mobile platform in 2010. At least half of next year’s devices are expected to be powered by Android.

Acer will also continue to develop Windows Mobile devices.

Meanwhile, Acer’s first Android-powered smartphone, the A1, is expected later this year. Based on specifications posted a bit too early by Expansys (pulled down now), we know it will be powered a 768MHz Qualcomm 8250 processor and Google Android. It will come with quad-band (850/900/1800/1900MHz) GSM/GPRS/EDGE and tri-band (850/1900/2100MHz) HSPA/WCDMA connectivity, a 3.5-inch WVGA touchscreen display, 256MB RAM and 512MB ROM, built-in GPS, 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR and A2DP, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a 5MP camera with auto-focus, a microSD car slot, and a 1350mAh battery.
