Acer is apparently the latest company to be thinking of launching its own application store. Acer made the revelation during a press event held in London. No final decision has been made but the company is “examining the viability of an app store.”
Should the company give the project the green light, the Acer application store would be available on the new line of mobile phones that Acer introduced at MWC last month. With more phones in line for the second half of 2009, Acer might be able to reach the critical mass necessary to make such a project worthwhile. But there will be plenty of competition, not only from other manufacturers and their own application stores (like Nokia and Samsung), but also from the forthcoming Microsoft Windows Marketplace for Mobile store.
