In a CNET article focusing on Acer’s efforts to dethrone HP as the largest notebook seller, the upcoming Acer Liquid smartphone is mentioned as a device that Acer is looking to to grow its revenues next year.
Interestingly, it appears that initial predictions that the first device in Acer’s Liquid family would run at 1GHz courtesy of its Snapdragon processor have been dashed. Instead, the Snapdragon will only run at 768MHz. The Acer Liquid was also shown off at a press event and French site Revioo.com confirmed the 768MHz processor speed.
To date we knew that the Acer Liquid would use Google Android 1.6 (codename Donut), HSPA connectivity, a 5MP camera and GPS. The CNET and Revioo.com article add that it will come with a 3.5-inch WVGA touchscreen display, 256MB RAM and 512MB ROM, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, A-GPS support, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a 1,350mAh battery. It will also be upgradeable to Google Android 2.0.
The Acer Liquid is expected to be available in select markets before the end of the year. It will sell for €349 before subsidies and will come with a 2GB storage card. It might also be bundled with a 16GB card (price yet to be determined). There is no news yet on whether any carriers will offer it.
