After slipping up and accidentally revealing the N86 8MP yesterday during a presentation during a show in Singapore, Nokia formally announced its new 8MP camera phone today.
When Nokia set out to make the best mobile imaging device, it combined wide-angle Carl Zeiss optics and an 8 megapixel sensor, resulting in performance comparable to a stand alone digital camera. The Nokia N86 8MP is designed to excel in both bright and low light conditions, and it’s optimized for both video and still imaging. Its high-speed connectivity ensures easy and convenient sharing.
Powered by the Symbian operating system with S60 3rd Edition user interface, it comes with quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE and tri-band HSDPA connectivity, an AMOLED 2.6-inch QVGA display, 74MB RAM and 8GB of internal flash memory, GPS/AGPS, 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0 (with A2DP), a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack, TV-out support, a micro SDHC expansion slot (supporting up to 16GB), an 8MP camera with Carl Zeiss lens, mechanical shutter and dual LED flash, built-in compass, and a 1200mAh battery. It also has a kick stand.
The Nokia N86 8MP should be available starting in Q2 2009 and is expected to sell for €375 (about US$470).
