You may not be familiar with the Chinese mobile handset company ZTE but the company plans to change that by becoming one of the top five global players within the next five years.
In the last quarter of 2007, ZTE broke into the top 10 for the first time, reaching the 7th spot with shipment of about 30 million devices (giving it a 1.2 percent marketshare). Part of the reason that ZTE is not well known is that 70 percent of these devices were distributed by partners. Much like HTC did a few years back, ZTE is planning to launch more ZTE-branded devices in the future.
