Toshiba is set to introduce two new Portégé smartphones, the G910 and G710, and the G450 mobile phone. The three were revealed at an Italian press conference this week.
The G910 is not a complete surprise as it had shown up on the FCC web site back in December. The clamshell G910 is powered by Windows Mobile 6 Professional and will come with tri-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE and single-band UMTS/HSDPA connectivity, a 3-inch WVGA touchscreen display, 128MB RAM and 256MB ROM, integrated GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0, both a 2MP and a VGA camera and a biometric sensor.
The Portégé G710 features the same candybar form factor as the Motorola Q or Samsung Blackjack. It is expected to run Windows Mobile 6 Standard. It is expected to come with quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE connectivity (no 3G), a QWERTY thumb-keyboard, a 2.4-inch QVGA display, 64MB RAM and 128MB ROM, integrated GPS, Bluetooth 1.2, a 2MP camera and a microSD expansion slot. It may not come with Wi-Fi though.
The G450 modem phone is a very different device. Supporting tri-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE and single-band UMTS/HSDPA connectivity, it can function as a modem by connecting to your PC via USB. Available in white, black or red, it comes with a small 96×39 pixel OLED display and 160MB of internal memory.
The Portégé G710, G910 and G450 could start to ship as early as March 2008. Formal announcements and details are expected at the Mobile World Congress next month.
