Earlier this week Toshiba confirmed rumours and announced that it had decided to discontinue sales and marketing of HD DVD products.
While we continue to believe HD DVD is the best format for consumers, based on its technological advancements and the value inherent in our player offerings, recent market developments have led us to the decision.
Things started to unravel very quickly for Toshiba and its HD DVD format after Warner Bros. announced that it would only produce Blu-Ray discs and regular DVDs starting in May 2008.
Shortly after, Microsoft announced that it was discontinuing the Xbox 360 HD DVD player. I suspect we will soon hear of a new Blu-Ray Xbox 360 player in the near future.
