Telus launches Koodo Mobile

As expected, Koodo Mobile went live yesterday. The new CDMA-based wireless service went live with a retro-80s marketing campaign and a focus on affordable service plans.

We were created differently, with you in mind. We believe in being simple and straightforward. And we’re here to stop bill bulge. You see Canadians are consuming fatty, unnecessary mobility features like movies, video calling and satellite radio. All the while being weighed down by the excess cost. And for most, it’s proving to be a killer – on their wallet.

Koodo Mobile is here to help. We don’t do excess fees – in fact, we even pay the System Access Fee for you. We don’t make you pay an activation fee in-store or online. And our slimmed down prices will help you shed that stubborn cellular cellulite you’ve been carrying for years.

We call this fat-free mobility, and it’s sweeping the nation.

Plans start at CAD$15/month for 50 minutes of talk time and 50 SMS. Koodo does not charge system access fees (normally up to CAD$8.95/month) and bills by the second rather than the minute. There are no cancellation fees either. Unlike its parent company Telus Mobility, it does not offer services such as mobile TV.

Three phones are currently available (Samsung U410, Motorola MOTOKRZR and Motorola W385) and a few stores are now open in Toronto with a nationwide rollout planned.

Koodo also introduced a tab system that effectively subsidizes the purchase of a new phone.
