Quebecor and its subsidiary Videotron announced today that they plan to spend up to CAD$1 billion over the next four years to deploy their own advanced wireless network.
Videotron plans to bring consumers and small businesses an offering of advanced wireless telecommunications services that is unprecedented in Quebec, based on effective, reliable technology, diverse and convergent content and unambiguous business policies.
Quebecor secured the majority of spectrum offered in Quebec in the last Canadian wireless auction. The company has not provided any updates to its plans to partner with another wireless player to offer national coverage.
A new HSPA network will be up and running within the next 12 to 18 months. An upgrade to 4G will then follow. Nokia Siemens Network has been tapped as its partner to build out the network.
