Palm announced that it has just sold its first millionth Centro. The Centro, with its USD$99 price has clearly demonstrated that there is a demand for low-cost smartphones.
“The Palm Centro is flying off the shelves because users who want to step up to a smartphone see it as the perfect first choice,” said Brodie Keast, senior vice president of marketing for Palm, Inc.
The Centro is powered by the PalmOS. It comes with a QWERTY thumb keyboard, CDMA/EV-DO or GSM/GPRS/EDGE connectivity (depending on carrier), 64MB available user storage, a 320 x 320 display, a 1.3MP camera, Bluetooth 1.2, and a microSD slot (supporting cards up to 4GB).
Palm unveiled the Centro last September in the U.S. It is now offered in 10 countries worldwide, including Hong Kong, Singapore, India, France, Italy and others. Palm also plans to introduce it to other countries this year.
