Nokia announced today that it will acquire fellow Norwegian company Trolltech which develops mobile software. The acquisition of Trolltech will enable Nokia to accelerate its cross-platform software strategy for mobile devices and desktop applications, and develop its Internet services business.
Nokia will continue to develop both desktop and mobile Trolltech products. It is also planning to license Trolltech technology under both commercial and open source licenses.
Nokia will pay NOK 843 million (over USD$150 million) for Trolltech and the offer should be completed in the second quarter.
