The recently announced Nokia N78 is now showing up on the FCC web site, confirming that Nokia could be planning to offer it in North America. Unlike some previous device releases (like the N95), Nokia appears to be trying to release the US version of the N78 as close to that of the European version as possible.
The North American version of the N78 will support both the 850 and 1900MHz bands. But Nokia has not indicated whether it will release it as an unlocked model or will it offer it to a carrier (like AT&T)?
The N78 features a unique button layout with four elongated illuminated key labels rather than a more traditional 12 key layout. It will come with quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE and the aforementioned dual-band HSDPA connectivity, 70MB of internal storage, A-GPS, a 2.4-inch QVGA display, an FM radio, 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, a 3.2MP camera with Carl Zeiss optics and a microSD expansion slot. A number of colours are expected.
Nokia has not provided specific release dates for the N78 but it is expected in the second quarter.
